Habits

Habits are the little things that we do every day without even thinking about it. Driving the car to work and getting a mocha on the way, or going to the super market and buying whatever you feel like making for dinner that night are just a few examples. These things are all great, but we need to be more conscious of what we do in order to take care of the environment, and we also need to think a little further before we walk out of the door in the morning to get a coffee…

As regular busy people, which most of us are, it can be quite overwhelming to suddenly feel an obligation to change ones lifestyle immediately. It’s unmanageable and virtually impossible to develop sustainable habits if you try them all at once. Slowly incorporating these new habits into your lifestyle allows both you and the people around you to adjust to a new daily life, so only add one or two every week.

psst… close to all of these habits will save you money….

Being sustainable is not necessarily about ditching the car and commuting 20 miles on the bike every morning, unless you really want to, of course! If you really need a car to make your life go round, nobody is pressuring you to stop driving a gas car. The habits that you take on must be sustainable both for the environment AND for you. Sustainability is all about careful consideration of every daily activity. For example, that paper cup that you buy with coffee every morning could easily be replaced with a collapsible mug or a thermos. Another easy fix is washing out that dirty can of tomato sauce before throwing it in the recycling bin without even thinking. These are small things that we can all adapt to if we just take a little more responsibility for our actions, and try to be conscious about how we affect the environment.
